Admissions

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Office of Admissions supports the daily operations of both the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions teams while gaining hands-on experience in higher education recruitment, student engagement, and enrollment management. This position is ideal for a graduate student interested in student affairs, higher education administration, communications, marketing, or enrollment management.

The GA will assist with prospective student communication, event support, office operations, and management of student ambassador initiatives. This role requires strong communication skills, professionalism, organization, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with front office operations and provide support to prospective students and families visiting the Office of Admissions
  • Support admissions counselors with recruitment initiatives, communication follow-up, appointment scheduling, and data entry
  • Assist in coordinating and supervising the student ambassador program
  • Conduct outreach to admitted graduate students through the 鈥淪tudents Helping Students鈥 campaign
  • Help manage admissions events, including open houses, accepted student programs, campus tours, and special visit days
  • Oversee, schedule, and orchestrate graduate campus visits
  • Attend graduate admissions events and serve as a key touch point for graduate students
  • Communicate with prospective students via phone, email, text, and virtual platforms
  • Assist with social media, marketing, and student engagement initiatives as needed
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with CRM/database updates
  • Support office coverage during periods when admissions staff are traveling for recruitment
  • Perform additional administrative and project-based duties as assigned

Career Center / Office of Academic Success

Career Center / Office of Academic Success

The Center for Career Development and Internships (CCDI) and the Office of Academic Success (OAS) welcomes applicants for the position of graduate assistant for the 2026-2027 academic year. This individual will be responsible for performing 15-18 hours of service per week during the fall and spring semesters.

CCDI Responsibilities

The GA will be an integral part in planning the logistics of all career and internship fairs on campus. They will also assist in providing information on career services available to walk-in students, inform and assist students regarding registering for academic internships, and partner with the internship coordinator to track internship hours and paperwork via LIVE.

The GA will also help in offering workshops, pop-ups, and outreach activities for the career and internship programs.

OAS Responsibilities

In the Office of Academic Success, the GA鈥檚 responsibilities will be to guide students to develop their own learning strategies in individual sessions and manage weekly study lab hours for the EDGE program.

The position also involves overseeing SI/tutor sessions and schedules in conjunction with the tutor coordinator. The GA will help promote OAS resources, develop and present workshops, monitor and develop social media content, keep records, and make referrals to other campus resources.

CREATIVE WRITING

CREATIVE WRITING

Etruscan Press

Online, 3 credits. Student will be responsible for performing 9 hours of service per week for the semester. Duties will include, but are not limited to, editing, copy work, and grant writing.

Student will gain valuable knowledge regarding the day-to-day workings of a small press, including editing, copy work, and grant writing.

Etruscan Press

Online, 3 credits. Student will be responsible for 9 hours of service per week and will train to be an assistant editor for Etruscan Press. Student will provide any additional office and project support as needed.

Student will gain a working knowledge of the duties of an assistant editor of a small press.

Office Assistant

Hybrid, 3 credits: in-person and online (preference for a student who lives in the NEPA area). Student will be responsible for performing 9 hours of service per week, assisting the director and administrative assistant with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to assisting with social-media marketing, office reorganization, representing the program at local conferences, recruitment assistance, assisting during the residency, and directly assisting the office staff in other development projects.

Student will gain knowledge regarding the operations of a low-residency creative writing program.

Community Outreach Coordinator

Online. 2 credits. Student will serve as a resource for our students as they address one of the requirements of the MFA Program, which is to 鈥渦se your writing talents to give back to your community鈥; and plan, organize, and execute community-building activities during the semester and at the residencies. 

Publication Editor

Online. 3 credits. Student will be responsible for performing 9 hours of service per week collecting, drafting, and editing news stories for the program's newsletter, Revise This! Student will also be responsible for inviting and coordinating guest bloggers on the Creative Writing blog, The Write Life.

Managing Editor, River & South Review

Online. 3 credits. Student will be responsible for performing 9 hours of service per week. Duties will include, but are not limited to: overseeing editorial team, managing the editorial and production calendar to ensure timely release of issues, individual meetings with genre editors to determine which pieces will be selected to be discussed by full team, managing the submission process in Submittable, planning/creating/posting social media content, and bringing strategic ideas to editorial team for consideration.

Student will gain knowledge of managing the creative and production logistics of an online literary journal.

Hippocampus Magazine

Online. 3 credits. Student will be responsible for performing 9 hours of service per week. Duties will include, but are not limited to, reading submissions and developing content to promote magazine issues, books, or press-sponsored events.

Student will gain knowledge of publishing and promoting a literary magazine and become familiar with small press practices.

Kinsman Quarterly Press

Online. 3 credits. Student will be responsible for performing 9 hours of service per week within 1 of 5 production departments: Editing, Journalism, Book Production & Design, Social Marketing, or Fundraising.

Students will learn industry-related skills in collaboration with a dynamic team, while empowering underrepresented voices from around the globe.

Nicole Frail Books

Online, 3 credits. Students will be responsible for performing 9 hours of service per week for the semester. Duties will include, but are not limited to, reviewing submissions, market analysis, editing and proofreading, creating marketing materials, and ARC and Street Team management.

Student will gain valuable knowledge regarding the day-to-day workings of a small press, hitting all major departments that work together to bring a book from idea to product: acquisitions, editorial, production, PR/marketing, cover design, contracts, and sales.

Office of Diversity Initiatives

Office of Diversity Initiatives

The mission of the Office of Diversity Initiatives (ODI) is to educate, mentor, and coordinate educational, cultural, and social programs to enhance the student experience and create well-versed students. ODI helps students broaden their perspectives in promoting intercultural dialogue, awareness, civic engagement, and value diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is done through collaboration with academic programming, training, conferences, and mentoring, as well as support from faculty, staff, and the campus community. Serve and provide support for students with disabilities, veteran status, gender/sexuality, and historically marginalized communities, and all students.

Responsibilities

  • Support all programs provided by the Office of Diversity Initiatives (e.g., Open House, accepted student day & graduation, training, and Diversity Student Leadership conference at Wilkes)
  • Assist with Diversity, equity, and inclusion planning events on campus and off campus
  • Serve in an assistant advising role with several 重口味SM student clubs, which include the Multicultural Student Coalition (MSC), the Black Student Union (BSU), the 重口味SMAfrican Cultural Association (WACA), the Student Organization of Latinos (SOL), and the 重口味SMStep Team
  • Supervise/Chaperone cultural, social events, and off-campus conferences
  • Assist with the successful implementation of the RISE & Metamorphosis mentoring program. (These programs are designed to help retain our underrepresented students. They also focus on creating a sense of belonging and providing students with skills and tools to ensure their collegiate success.)
    • Assist with bi-weekly planning meetings
    • Send email reminders of events
    • Connect with and schedule potential guest speakers for presentations
  • Assist with the successful implementation of the D.I.V.E certificate
  • Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Reservation of the Savitz Lounge room
    • Administrative duties
    • Restocking of the Colonel's cupboard
  • Assist with marketing and social media posts of events and monthly celebrations

Requirements

Graduate assistantships are opportunities for matriculated students in a 重口味SMgraduate program. All areas of study are eligible. Assistantships typically last for 12 months. The required weekly hours are 25. Working evenings and weekends will be required.

Location

The Graduate Assistant position will have an office space in the Hub in the Max Roth Center.

Compensation

  • Tuition remission of Fall $5,000 and Spring $5,000
